Cartoon Network Gave Up the Broadcasting Rights to Megas XLR

Uh......I'm skeptical about that, I'm sorry. Companies rarely "give up" the rights to a show they paid for and produced. When it happens it is usually the result of a large exchange of money between them and another company. CN would not just say "oh well, no one'll want THIS" and throw Megas into public domain.

That's where it would be if nobody else bought it, and I haven't seen $1 Megas DVDs at Wal-Mart yet.

Exactly when did CN give up the rights to Megas?

Broadcasting rights is not the same as giving up the rights to the show itself, or the Megas XLR property, as odd as that sounds.
It does mean some other network could pick it up and air the episodes though, and if they desire, they could order more episodes. If that happens, Cartoon Network will still get money from that, likely through royalties.

Makes me wonder if the same fate happened to Robotomy. It also makes me wonder if it was Snyder's doing? Selling the broadcast rights doesn't sound like something that Samples would do.

I'm also pondering if the broadcasting rights, to unkown type shows like Robot Jones, Mike Lu and Og and Sheep in The Big City were sold.
But I would doubt it, since they were in the 20th special bumpers, and Robot Jones was shown again sometime in 2010 right?

So many question in my head, why Megas? S:l

Oh and what is the difference mentioned, between sold and "gave up"?

Robotomy was produced by a company that no longer exists so CN probably still has that. Mike, Lu & Og airs on Boomerang from time to time. Robot Jones and Sheep in the Big City were referenced in the 20th Anniversary videos but I seem to recall something about CN no longer owning Sheep in the Big City. Megas was only referenced in that mural someone did for the 20th Anniversary along with some other shows CN possibly no longer has the rights to.

Does this mean Titmouse has Megas XLR and can shop it around? Maybe Jody or George could answer that because other than Turner or possibly Warner, Titmouse is the only company I could think of which would get those rights by default.

This would explain why Boomerang has never aired it but I always assumed that was because CN had no interest in running it on Boomerang and that's probably still true but taken to a whole different level.

Megas is actually pretty ideal to find life on another network because there's nothing linking it to Cartoon Network other than production credits. They could throw it on Nicktoons or Disney XD for instance. Maybe Saban could get it for Vortexx. I'd say Turner could get it back but it's all but assured they wont especially for Adult Swim.

I never got the impression Megas did poorly though so that sounds suspect to me. The show did well on Toonami with the target demographics at least initially and supposedly was doing alright on Miguzi as well. It didn't get a 3rd season because the staff changed at CN and a lot of well received shows were not getting renewed because of that. Maybe it just didn't hold up?

Well I have it on iTunes but this news is still a downer. The silver lining is we don't have to rely on Turner or Warner to put Megas on TV or DVD.

According to the TV schedule, Cartoon Network still airs Megas XLR in Netherlands and Flanders. (Every night at 01:10PM) I'm going to record it to see if it's true.Oh, and this is my first post :) (You will see that my English isn't good at all... I'm only 15 years old.)

First of all, your English is not bad at all! I assume that the same rights doesn't apply for other contries. You can find other channels in other countries that air CN shows even. CN basically, even though CN America no longer has the broadcasting rights for Megas XLR CN Netherlands and Flanders might still have them. I think that's how it works, and I'm pretty sure CN in other countries still have them too, but just doesn't air it atm.

Might be a lot of people here that are thinking about moving there just to see Megas :p

Even if CN dropped Megas XLR, among other shows too, I wonder why they'd have the company add them in the 20-year memories. The new generation of kids who have never seen these shows probably only had something to cheer for if they saw bits and pieces of today's current shows, MAYBE the Eds too. Many of them may not even know what Megas or Sheep are, and unless they're talented in online searches or have friends/family that know the CN of the 90s and early 00s, they may never understand what shows they are.

Basically, I'm just saying if you don't have the show period, why was it involved?

Both both George and Jody were taken by surprise at this. It seems weird, since the show didn't do that poorly.

So CN has the iTunes rights, but not the broadcast rights. So who has the DVD rights? Might be a good idea to start questioning Shout Factory about possibly picking this up...

Actually, they rerun Sheep in the Big City and Mike Lu & Og here since September to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Sheep in the Big City airs every Monday and Friday at 01:15PM and 08:50PM and every Wednesday and Sunday at 08:50PM too. But every episode is cut into 3 shorts :( Mike Lu & Og airs every Tuesday and Thurday at 01:15PM.

Oh, and in July and early August 2012, they had a Comedy Summerfestival on 3 CN feeds: Netherlands/Flanders, Poland and Hungary/Romania. (And on this 'Summerfestival', they aired full episodes of Sheep :) )

Here's the Dutch commercial:

The Polish version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYzyQVn4VS4
The Hungarian version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1PgrxyNvkc / The Romanian version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4ANmOlUCNo
(They didn't air the same cartoons on the same feeds in this 'Summerfestival', so you can't see all the cartoons in the commercial)

However, I'm really sure Cartoon Network still have the rights of Sheep in the Big City and Mike Lu & Og :)

EDIT: I just checked it and they still rerun Megas XLR here.

As am I. I wonder if the show will return. That would probably be the cherry on top for the 20th anniversary.
